Course-Record 61 Seals Victory and Sets New Champions Tour Scoring Record
CARLSBAD, Calif. (January 25, 2006) -TaylorMade-adidas Tour Staff professional Loren Roberts started 2006 off right where he left off in 2005, with a victory at the season-opening MasterCard Championship in Kaupulehu, Hawaii. Roberts secured victory at the MasterCard with a course-record, final-round 61 at the Hualalai Golf Club, which included a back-nine score of 29 fueled by five birdies and an eagle. In relation to par, his 25-under par score shattered the Champions Tour 54-hole record by three shots. Likewise, he set a new Champions Tour record for birdies in a 54-hole event with 26 – the previous mark was 24.

Roberts joined the Champions Tour last July and competed in just six events before the season ended. However, he played well enough in that short span to win once – the JELD-WEN Tradition – and finish 16th on the money list. He also played well enough last year on the PGA Tour, on which he has won eight times, to finish in the top 100 for the 18th consecutive season, thus securing fully exempt status on the "flat-belly" Tour for 2006. Besides his usual activities as a tour pro, Roberts is also serving this year as an assistant captain to Tom Lehman for the upcoming Ryder Cup Matches, to be held at the K Club in Ireland.
