Loren Roberts Trusts Titleist for Second Straight Win on Champions Tour
Fairhaven, MA (January 30, 2006) – Loren Roberts completed a two-week Hawaiian sweep on the Champions Tour when he converted an eagle putt on the final hole of the Turtle Bay Championship for a two-stroke victory. Roberts, a long-time Titleist Pro V1 golf ball player, completed his wire-to-wire win with a 12-under 204 total. Last week, he posted a record-setting, one-shot victory in the season-opening MasterCard Championship in Hualalai.
Titleist captured the golf ball count with 58 players in the 78-player Turtle Bay Championship field, more than five times the nearest competitor with 11.
PGA TOUR: Titleist Pro V1 players Jose Maria Olazabal and Nathan Green advanced to a three-way playoff at the Buick Invitational. Green, a rookie from Australia making just his second career PGA Tour start, was eliminated following the first extra hole, while Olazabal joined him as runner-up after the second playoff hole.
Titleist staff player Lucas Glover narrowly missed making the playoff a foursome when his 63-foot eagle putt on the 72nd hole came up a revolution short. Glover’s playing partner and fellow Pro V1x golf ball loyalist, Arjun Atwal, tied for fourth, giving Titleist players four of the top five positions on the leaderboard.
Titleist was the golf ball choice of 120 players at the Buick Invitational, 10 times more than the nearest competitor with 12. It was also the most played brand in the iron (41), utility iron (6), wedge (135) and putter (67) categories, and second in drivers (43).
While Titleist was a close second in the driver count, it was played by more than three times as many players than the third-place brand which had 14. Of the 43 Titleist drivers in play, 22 were the new Titleist Pro Titanium 905R 460cc prototype model. The runner-up who bowed out after the second playoff hole played the Pro Titanium 905R in competition for the first time this week.
Of the 41 Titleist iron sets (versus 33 for the nearest competitor) played at the Buick Invitational, more than half were the new Forged 695MB and Forged 695CB models. A total of 11 players in the field relied upon the new Forged 695MB and another 10 trusted the new Forged 695CB.
Titleist was the overwhelming favorite in the wedge category with 135 in play, enjoying a nearly 2-1 cushion versus the closest competition with 69.
The choice in the putter category was even clearer with 67 players, including the Buick Invitational champion, relying upon the precision and performance of the Scotty Cameron brand versus 23 for the nearest competitor.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: At the season-opening Movistar Panama Championship, the winner relied upon the Titleist Pro V1x golf ball and a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Newport putter for a three-shot margin of victory. He finished at 11-under 269 to earn his third career Nationwide Tour victory. Nine of the top 10 finishers, including each of the top five, all played Titleist golf balls for their success.
