VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. (January 31, 2006) – LPGA Tour professional Donna Andrews joins the Pinehurst Resort golf staff today, with a focus on golf instruction and golf fitness programs, and new golf business development.
"I feel a special connection with Pinehurst, and believe their target on fitness and bringing more women to the game is a perfect fit," said Andrews. "I look forward to teaching both golf and fitness that will help people improve their games, prevent injuries and increase their enjoyment of the game."
Andrews will serve as an ambassador for the historic property, to include promotion of its new fitness and women’s-only schools, development of corporate golf events and programming for family-based golf programs, among others.
A U.S. Solheim Cup member, Andrews’ career highlights as an LPGA Tour player include wins at the PING/Welch’s Championship, ShopRite Classic and the Nabisco Dinah Shore. A Virginia native and graduate of the University of North Carolina, she was a five-time winner of the Virginia Women’s State Amateur Championship. In 1989, she became a Second-Team All-American , before joining the LPGA in 1990.
"There is little doubt of Donna’s outstanding golf performance," said Pinehurst Director of Golf Matt Massei. "She adds a strong dimension to our staff and propels our newest golf instruction products to a higher level. We look forward to seeing Donna on the Pinehurst campus this year, particularly in the busy spring and fall seasons."
Her agreement with Pinehurst also includes limited appearances, speaking engagements and development of junior golf activities. She will assist the award-winning Pinehurst Golf Advantage School in programming future golf instruction products, as well.
Andrews will maintain her LPGA status as well as provide commentary on select LPGA events on ESPN in 2006. She will also work with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s new Golf Fitness Lab at Pinehurst, to promote women’s health and wellness.
