January 24, 2006 – The Niagara Parks Commission (NPC), and Shaw-Nee Slopes Golf Course (SNS) in partnership with Jim McLean Golf Schools today announced plans to establish a prestigious teaching academy at NPC’s Legends on the Niagara, and Shaw-Nee Slopes Golf Course beginning in the 2006 golf season.
This exclusive agreement involves the construction of a new facility at both Legends, and Shaw-Nee Slopes to house the golf school. Jim McLean, world-renowned golf instructor and swing specialist, will join with NPC / SNS to market the Jim McLean Golf School through conventional media advertising and at golf shows throughout North America starting this winter.
Every major golf destination offers professional golf teaching facilities. With the recent emergence of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Calgary, Alberta as North American golfing destinations, it was only a matter of time before a golf academy of this caliber was established in both locations.
"Jim McLean is one of golf’s luminaries and his Schools are known around the world. His Golf School will bring deserved profile to Niagara as a golf destination," said Jim Williams, Chair of The Niagara Parks Commission. "What also brought us together was Jim’s dedication to junior golf," stated Williams. "Having a world famous teacher as part of the Legends team will strengthen our reputation and commitment to junior golf and its promotion in the Province."
The Niagara Parks Commission believes the addition of this prominent golf facility at Legends will significantly enhance the appeal of Niagara as a golf destination, compliment the overall image of NPC’s golf properties and provide more play and stay opportunities and instructional packages for golfers looking to visit the region.
"Niagara is the ideal venue for my golf school in Ontario. Legends’ two championship courses, its circular driving range, and spectacular clubhouse represent the perfect location for my school," said Jim McLean. "There are so many challenging courses here in Niagara, and the region has so much to offer, from great restaurants, attractions, casinos, theatres and wineries that I know the people who come to our School will enjoy it all."
Calgary was also a natural choice for the Jim McLean Golf School. "We are extremely excited to introduce the 1st ever Canadian location" said Director of Instructor Cindy Pilat. Nestled in Calgary, Alberta’s bustling southwest, Shaw-Nee Slopes is a perfect destination for any golfer. Shaw-Nee Slopes is located just 50 miles from Banff, Alberta. Banff, recognized as one of the top ski destination resorts in North America. Over the years Shaw-Nee Slopes has gone through many facelifts. Homesteaded in 1883 by one of Calgary’s earliest pioneers Samuel W. Shaw, Shaw-Nee Slopes Golf Course is a staple in the history of Calgary’s booming growth.
The Jim McLean Golf Schools will make significant contributions to Junior Golf and Local Charities. The creation of the Jim McLean Junior Golf Experience will be an integral part of the overall strategy.
The new Jim McLean Golf School will be located just south of Niagara Falls near the village of Chippawa, at the 283-hectare Legends on the Niagara, which includes two championship 18-hole courses, a nine-hole executive layout, a 360-degree circular driving range, and a full-service clubhouse.
The new Jim McLean Golf School in Calgary will be located in the South West, at the Shaw-Nee Slopes Golf Course, which includes a championship 18-hole course, full indoor Jim McLean Golf School ( now open, call Cindy Pilat – Director of Instruction @ 403-256-1445 x 222 ), 2 sided driving range, and a full service clubhouse.
The new outdoor facilities are slated to open in May 2006.
