Despite a slow start, it was more of the same this weekend for the Buick Open Champion. After opening with a one-under-par 71, he was able to settle into the championship form that had earned him three previous titles at this event alone. Trusting the tour-standard Dynamic Gold in his irons, he fought back forcing a 3-way, all Dynamic Gold playoff. Overall, True Temper steel dominated the event with nearly 3 times as many sets in play as the nearest competitor.
Over on the Champions tour, history was made as last week’s winner of the MasterCard Championship in Hualalai once again emerged victorious with a two stroke victory at this weekend’s Turtle Bay Championship. Trusting True Temper’s Tour Concept shafts in his irons, he became only the third person in Champions Tour history to open the season with two consecutive victories. An 8-time winner on the PGA Tour, the Champion has claimed 3 wins on the senior circuit since coming aboard last July.
