No.1 Player on 2005 Nationwide TOUR to Exclusively Play Heavy Putter
(RIDGEFIELD, Connecticut) -The Tour-proven Heavy Putter, featuring a revolutionary weighting system that automatically improves the putting stroke and reduces putts per round – today announces the signing of up-and-coming PGA TOUR star Troy Matteson to a multi-year endorsement contract.
Matteson, 26, will use a Heavy Putter exclusively in all golf events, and will be prominently featured in the company’s upcoming infomercial and other promotional programs.
After switching to a Heavy Putter in 2004 without compensation, Matteson catapulted from 110th to eighth in putting on the Nationwide Tour and finished the 2005 season as its No.1 player — breaking the single-season earnings record in the process — earning him an automatic PGA TOUR card.
"There’s no doubt Heavy Putter weighed heavily in my excellent play in 2005," says Matteson. "If I was forced to play without it, my confidence and game would suffer dramatically. Whoever isn’t playing with a Heavy Putter should run and get one. Switching to the Heavy Putter is one of the best career moves I’ve made."
In Matteson’s first five 2006 PGA TOUR events, he finished tied for 31st, 24th, 28th and 27th, one of the most successful starts ever by a rookie. Using the Heavy Putter A-1 model (a center-shafted blade), he averages nearly four birdies per round and currently ranks ninth in Total Birdies.
"We are thrilled to further develop our relationship with Troy after he used the Heavy Putter on his own accord en route to becoming one of golf’s best putters and earning his PGA TOUR card," says Stephen Boccieri, inventor and president/CEO of Heavy Putter. "His unwavering commitment to the Heavy Putter during the past two years makes us proud that it is already contributing to his success on the PGA TOUR."
Matteson is among many PGA TOUR players using the Heavy Putter, according to Darrell Survey. These professionals – as well as amateurs – benefit from the Heavy Putter’s unique weighting system, making it the only putter that automatically improves the putting stroke and reduces putts-per-round.
Due to its increased overall weight, the body instinctively activates its large, stable muscles to perform the putting stroke, resulting in a naturally correct, consistent path and uniform pace for precise distance control.
Additional weight concentrated in the grip section moves the Heavy Putter’s balance point higher up the shaft and closer to the body, further reducing the force applied to the small, unstable muscles of the hands and wrists, resulting in greater stability, control and consistency.
Using its adjustable tip weights, golfers can fine tune the balance point of the Heavy Putter for an optimal and consistent release through impact.
Heavy Putter recently unveiled its new Matte Series at the 2006 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla. Featuring the same, revolutionary weighting technology as the original Heavy Putter, the new Matte Series head is finished in sleek, dark gray and is combined with a satin chrome shaft and midsize grip.
Due to the Heavy Putter’s dramatic rise in popularity, cost-saving production efficiencies have been realized and passed along to retailers and consumers. The MSRP of the new Matte Series putters is $229, including the adjustable tip-weight kit. A blade model (Matte Series A-3) and mallet model (Matte Series B-3), both with heel-mounted, double-bend shafts, will be the first introduced, available to consumers in April.
More About Heavy Putter
Heavy Putter, LLC, based in Ridgefield, Conn., has been the golf industry’s buzz since it launched its revolutionary putters at the 2005 PGA Merchandise Show and has gained attention from Sports Illustrated, USA Today, U.S. News & World Report, Robb Report, Popular Science, The Golf Channel, all national and regional golf media, and Top-25 daily newspapers. The Heavy Putter has also achieved immediate acceptance on the PGA, Nationwide and Champions Tours.
The Heavy Putter represents a radical shift in putter concept, design and technology, and is touted by professional golfers, industry executives and media as the first new putter in decades that can revolutionize golf because its weighting system improves the consistency of the putting stroke automatically. They liken it to the paradigm shift that occurred with the advent of electric golf carts, metal woods, graphite tennis rackets and parabolic skis — innovations that changed how a sport is played.
In addition to the innovative Weight Management System, Heavy Putters incorporate the highest-quality, advanced-design principles in putters:
â?¢ CNC milled from 303 Stainless Steel (304 in Matte Series), a very soft metal that creates a soft putting feel
â?¢ Perimeter heel-to-toe weighting, creating a high Moment of Inertia (resistance to twisting) for better distance control, and straighter and more accurate putts
â?¢ Face-balanced heads that make it easier to square the putter head at impact
â?¢ Diamond-cut, patterned faces that optimize the golf ball’s roll and impart a soft feel at impact
â?¢ ‘Surround Sight’ semi-circle alignment aids — exclusive to the Heavy Putter — located behind the face promote on-center hits and a tighter deviation of sweet spot impact versus lines or dots
