Stunning Approach on 18th Earns Champion, Sonartec European Tour Victory
Carlsbad, California – February 13, 2006; Sonartec congratulates the winner of the Johnny Walker Classic which was hosted by The Vines Resort & Country Club in Perth, Australia. The Champion showed his mettle by making eagle on the par-5 18th to avoid a playoff. The win was the first of the year for both the Champion and Sonartec.
The Champion hit what may have been the best shot of his career when his 3-iron approach from 220 yards on the par-5 18th settled some 12 inches from the cup. He tapped in for his eagle 3 and the one-stroke victory. The Champion played a 14-degree SS-3.5 deep-faced fairway metal, a club he played for much of the 2005 season.
"Sonartec is proud to contribute to the Johnnie Walker Champion’s victory," said Sonartec Vice President of Sales and Marketing Bob Gotfredson. "Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for both the Champion and Sonartec in 2006."
Sonartec also earned a runner-up finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am over the weekend. It was the second time in as many weeks Sonartec earned at least one runner-up finish in a PGA Tour event. The manufacturer also collected a pair of second place finishes at the FBR Open. The three second place finishers were playing a 19o Md hybrid, a 21o Md and a 14o SS-Series fairway metal, respectively.
Sonartec is a leading innovator in fairway wood and hybrid technologies on and off the PGA Tour. In 2005 alone, Sonartec clubs have contributed to at least 17 worldwide victories and 62 PGA Tour Top-10 finishes. In addition to the Md, the Sonartec product line includes the NP-99 fairway metal, the SS-2.5 and SS-3.5 fairway metals, and the new LS-99, which is a fairway metal designed for women and seniors.
