MIAMI – The SST PURE Shaft Alignment Lab kicks off its 2006 season this week at the ACE Group Classic in Naples, Fla., on the Champions Tour.
This year’s campaign follows a 2005 season that saw more than 170 golfers on the PGA and Champions tours combine to win more than $56 million in official money. The SST trailer will continue up Florida’s West Coast next week for the Outback Pro-Am, then will join the PGA Tour the following week at Doral in Miami.
"We started on Tour seven years ago with a 12-foot trailer that was the smallest on Tour," SST founder Dick Weiss said. "Since then we twice upgraded our trailer to the 28-footer we use now and have become a standard part of the weekly equipment carnival on Tour."
Using proprietary computer software and sensitive data-acquisition sensors, the SST PURE shaft alignment process analyzes the structural irregularities that exist to some degree in every golf shaft and locates the shaft’s most stable orientation. By assembling the club with the shaft in its PURE orientation, off-line bending and twisting of the shaft are minimized and impact repeatability on the center of the clubface by the golfer improves up to 51 percent. The process can be performed on existing clubs, new clubs or new shafts – steel or graphite – from most major manufacturers.
