(Duluth, GA, February 17, 2006)….The Georgia PGA in conjunction with the Georgia State Golf Association and the Atlanta Junior Golf Association have partnered with the BellSouth Classic to kick off Play Golf Georgia month on Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the BellSouth Classic’s Junior Clinic. The clinic will take place on the range at TPC at Sugarloaf at approximately 4:00 p.m.
Highlighting the day will be free instruction and golf clinics conducted by PGA TOUR players, plus more than 20 Georgia PGA Professionals throughout the Georgia Section. The PGA Professionals will also provide lessons and conduct demonstrations on all facets of the game providing a great opportunity for junior golfers of all abilities.
Play Golf Georgia month is part of the PGA of America’s Play Golf America program, which made its debut in 2004. Play Golf America is designed to introduce people to the game of golf, enhance their skills, and increase their frequency of play. In support of the campaign, the PGA of America has developed an industry-sponsored web site, www.playgolfamerica.com that serves as a link for consumers to access player development programs in their local markets that are of most interest to them.
Play Golf Georgia was created introduce people to golf and to highlight the economic impact that golf has in the state of Georgia and to promote Georgia as the capitol of golf. In April alone, the state of Georgia will host the BellSouth Classic, The Masters, a new Nationwide tour stop outside of Athens at the Athens Regional Foundation Classic, the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, and the LPGA at the Atlanta Charity Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez.
The Georgia PGA is one of the 41 Sections of the PGA of America. Its membership includes nearly 850 PGA professionals working at over 260 golf courses, clubs, and ranges throughout the state. Additionally, more than 20 Georgia PGA members compete on one of the PGA Tours. In keeping with the fundamental objectives laid down by its founders, one of the Georgia PGA’s primary goals is promoting the game of golf through clinics, junior and minority golf programs, consumer programs, and print and television media.
