PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa (February 20, 2006) – In a testimony to architectural success in recent years, three Ed Shearon-designed and built golf courses have been honored by selection to The Best of Northeast Golf 2006 magazines’ various Readers’ Choice Awards lists.
Raven’s Claw Golf Club in Limerick, Pa.; RiverWinds Golf Club in West Deptford Township, NJ; and Vineyard Golf at The Renault Winery in Egg Harbor Township, NJ were all listed as Readers’ Choices for Best New Courses. Raven’s Claw GC and RiverWinds GC were listed as Readers’ Choices for Best Northeast Courses and Renault Winery Resort made the Readers’ Choice list for Best Northeast Golf Resorts.
All three courses were designed and built around a concept and theme that architect Ed Shearon describes as minimalistic, strategic and affordable. A theme borrowed from the Scottish and Irish architecture and their surrounding golf course communities. Open for public play, all offer a challenging, enjoyable and affordable golfing experience
"The classic minimalist design featuring strategic architecture at an affordable price point has been the mission of these projects from day one," explained golf course architect Ed Shearon. "I feel that this is the future of golf course architecture and golf course communities."
Each of the courses was completed at a much lower cost due to three unique land-use and construction features. RiverWinds GC, opened in September 2002, was constructed on a previously unused industrial landfill. Vineyard Golf at the Renault Winery utilized existing land owned by the winery and opened in October of 2004. Opened in July of 2005, Raven’s Claw GC utilized housing construction to reduce infrastructure costs.
