Nissan, SBS Open Champions Win With Sonartec Fairway Metals and Hybrids

Carlsbad, California – February 20, 2006; Sonartec Golf congratulates the Nissan Open Champion on his victory. Facing a furious charge from several men, including the defending champion, the fiery South African competitor made shots when it counted, ultimately registering a one stroke victory. The win was Sonartec’s second in as many weeks; the first coming at last week’s Johnnie Walker Classic, a European Tour event held in Perth, Australia.

The Champion, who leads the PGA Tour money list ($2.1M) as a result of his victory, entered the Nissan Open with a full head of steam, having already recorded a pair of runner-up finishes; most recently at last week’s Pebble Beach AT&T Pro-AM. He played a 19o Md Hybrid Transition Club and was joined in the Top-10 by a pair of fellow Sonartec devotees (T5, T7).

"The Md has been played by more than 150 PGA Tour professionals since the 2004 season," said Bob Gotfredson, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "It continues to be the hybrid of choice for Tour professionals and amateurs alike."

In addition to the win at Riviera, Sonartec also earned its first LGPA Tour victory of the season at the SBS Open, which was held at Turtle Bay in Kahuku, Hawaii. The Champion emerged from a three-person, two-hole playoff victorious when she tapped for birdie in from 12 inches. It was the first victory of her young LPGA Tour career. The Champion played a pair of SS-07 fairway metals (14o and 19o), as well as a 22o SS-3.5 seven metal en route to the victory.

"Wow what a weekend for Sonartec!" said Gotfredson. "This is a great way to start the 2006 season. The best players in the world play our products each week without compensation, and results like this continue to validate their decisions."

Though Sonartec has always been a popular brand among the women on the LPGA Tour during the last four years, 2006 is the first year in which they have committed themselves to supporting the Tour with full-time representation; hiring and training Big Break III favorite Liz Uthoff to fill that role.

Sonartec also introduced its first ladies line of fairway metals, the LS-99. The LS-99 is designed to accommodate reduced swing speeds with an extremely forgiving, high-launch fairway metal while still providing Sonartec’s legendary performance. It is as close as Sonartec has come to introducing a game improvement line of fairway metals to their premium offerings.

Sonartec is a Carlsbad, California based pioneer in the fairway metal and hybrid market. Their innovative Driving Cavity technology produces extremely forgiving, high-performance equipment designed for golfers of all skill levels. Since 2002, Sonartec has recorded more than 70 worldwide wins, including a pair of major victories on the PGA Tour (2002, 2004 Open Championship).
