FORT WORTH, Texas — Both players in the final round match of the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship played drivers fitted with graphite shafts designed by United Sports Technologies (UST®). The battle on Sunday offered a dramatic demonstration of precision driving as the tournament announcers repeatedly commented on the ‘booming drives’ generated by both players.
UST’s new Proforce V2 and the HTD were the driver shaft models of choice by the runner-up and winner of this year’s WGC-Accenture Match Play. With the win, the Australian-born champion jumped to third on the PGA TOUR Official Money List with $1,548,234 and marked UST’s second win this season.
"Two of the world’s best players were engaged in a well-played match, and both of them trusted UST-branded shafts to provide them with the ultimate performance in their drives," said Stacey Benvenuto, PGA Tour representative for UST. "Unfortunately, only one of them could win the tournament, but it’s proof as to the growing popularity of UST shafts on the PGA Tour."
Benvenuto notes that after about a month into the new 2006 season, the official shaft counts revealed that 23 percent more UST shafts were being played by PGA Tour players this year over last year.
"UST-branded shafts are continuing to explode in popularity," she says. "At last week’s Nissan Open, for example, 56 UST shafts were in play. That’s a 25 percent increase!"
One of the world’s largest and most successful graphite golf shaft manufacturers, UST has shown a remarkable ability to develop innovative new products, which have won on every professional tour in the world. In recent competition on the PGA Tour, the IROD Hybrid shaft led the hybrid counts for player use, and the Proforce series remains the world’s most popular graphite replacement shaft in custom-fitting.
