Carlsbad, CA (February 28, 2006) – It took six matches and a tournament record 129 holes, but Cobra brand ambassador Geoff Ogilvy displayed his talent and determination by outlasting a world-class field to capture the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Four of Ogilvy’s wins went to extra holes, culminating with a 3 and 2 victory in the 36-hole final. The win is the second of the 28-year-old Australian’s PGA Tour career, following his inaugural victory at the Chrysler Classic of Tucson a year ago.
Ogilvy, who relied upon King Cobra Forged MB prototype irons for his success, joins fellow Cobra ambassador J.B. Holmes in the 2006 PGA Tour winners’ circle. Holmes, a rookie, earned his first career win just three weeks ago at the FBR Open.
Proving you’ve got to beat the best to be the best, Ogilvy ousted six higher-ranked players en route to the title, including four major champions, making Ogilvy and Cobra a perfect match.
