Golf Capital Of The World To Host More Than 100 Prep Teams From Across The Nation, April 13-15, 2006
March 3, 2006, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Team entries for the ninth annual Spring Palmetto High School Golf Championships, to be held April 13-15, 2006, on 12 Grand Strand courses, will be accepted through Thursday, March 23rd. Open to all high school teams, the Palmetto High School Golf Championships consist of two seasonal tournaments, one in the spring and one in the fall, that provide prep teams with a college-style event to help tune-up prior to conference, sectional and state tournaments. Medals are awarded to top finishing teams and individuals in each flight and a two-person coaches’ tournament. Teams from over 17 states will be represented in the 2006 Championship including South Carolina, North Carolina, California, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, Missouri, Wisconsin, Idaho, North Dakota, Georgia, Virginia, Michigan, Louisiana, Alabama, Delaware and Washington.
The Palmetto is a 54-hole college style event played on 12 of the Grand Strand’s premier courses. On the first day of the tournament, teams play a qualifying round that will be used to flight each squad. Teams then compete for the 36-hole championship within their flight. In addition to the team competition, medals will be awarded to the top individual performers in each flight.
In addition to the students’ event, coaches have the option to compete in a two-person team tournament to be held Thursday and Friday of the championship. Tee times will be allotted for the coaches to play and still keep watch on the student competition.
