PCS Professional "Class A" Clubmaker Philip Keith Chatham, Jr., PrecisionFit Golf, Kerrville, Texas; was named 2006 Clubmaker of the Year in ceremonies held at the 15th Annual PCS International Symposium and Expo in Louisville, Ky., at the Saturday, March 4, 2006, Awards Banquet. Chatham was selected from six finalists for the honor that recognizes one member each year as the best clubmaker in the world.
The PCS presented 2006 Regional Clubmaker of the Year awards to: PCS Advanced Professional "Class A" Clubmaker David Bass, David Bass Golf, Raleigh/Durham, N.C.; PCS Advanced Professional "Class A" Clubmaker Ed Grabowy, The Golf Doctor, Marietta, Ga.; PCS Professional "Class A" Clubmaker Jacques Intriere, Greenwich Golf Fitting Studio, Greenwich, Conn.; PCS Professional "Class A" Clubmaker Patrick Kennedy, Patrick Kennedy/Golf Clubmaker, Burlington, Vt.; and PCS Advanced Professional "Class A" Clubmaker Jim McCleery, McGolf Custom Clubs, Waverly, Ohio.
Chatham is the 14th PCS Clubmaker of the Year. Previous honorees were Paul Bessler, 1993; Bill Likins, 1994; Russ Swanson, 1995; Ken Collins, 1996; Mickey Russell, 1997; Lucas Hollertt, 1998; Dana Upshaw, 1999; Barry Harris, 2000; Gene Sprayberry, 2001; Thomas E. Cook, 2002; Bob Uebelhor, 2003; Jerry Hoefling, Sr., 2004; and Irene Cleaver, 2005.
The PCS Clubmaker of the Year program seeks to recognize outstanding professional clubmakers for excellence in craftsmanship, customer service and contributions to furthering the clubmaking profession. Nominees are welcome from the membership with the final selection made by a committee of previous clubmakers of the year. The presentation takes place each year at the annual PCS International Symposium and Expo.
CHATHAM was honored for his excellence in golf clubmaking and his contributions to PCS. He is a 14-year member of the Society, joining just one year after beginning his clubmaking career. In 2004-05, he received the Golf Clubmakers’ Society (GCA) Texas Clubmaker of the Year Award, and he helped gain mutual reciprocity between the GCA certification exam and the PCS "Class A" Clubmaker exam. He has served six years as PCS Membership Committee chair and currently is a member of the PCS Education and Training Committee. He is a contributor to Fitting Solutions for Physically Challenged Golfers, which is an on-line publication PCS will release in 2006. His Kerrville, Texas, business serves a large clientele, many of whom are senior golfers who require equipment adaptations to continue playing golf.
The 15th PCS International Symposium and Expo is the world’s largest independent gathering of professional clubmakers and component suppliers. Held at the Galt House Hotel, Louisville, Ky., March 2-5, 2006, the PCS Expo is planned by and for PCS members. It is open to all professional clubmakers. Special discounts are available to first-time member attendees , or non-member attendees who are guests of a PCS member. The PCS Expo attracts more than 300 professional clubmakers and 60 component and clubmaking supply vendors to the annual event. The PCS Expo stresses interactive exhibits where clubmakers can meet in-depth with component vendor representatives and test new equipment. Hitting nets are available for demonstrations. Also included in the program agenda are seminars, workshops, information sessions, social events, and the annual Awards Banquet.
