PALM COAST, Fla., March 13, 2006 â?¦ Ocean Hammock Golf Club head professional Mary Hafeman again has been named among Golf For Women magazine’s "Top 50 Teachers," who are featured in the March/April 2006 issue of the publication.
"I am extremely happy and proud to receive this recognition," said Hafeman, who is a repeat selection for the "Top 50" list, first being honored in 2001.
A former player on the LPGA Tour, Hafeman has been at the oceanfront Jack Nicklaus Signature course since 2003. In this capacity, Hafeman is responsible for golf services and operations at Ocean Hammock, part of the family of Centex Destination Properties.
"Mary Hafeman’s distinguished career and recognition by her peers in the golf world is a tremendous asset to our club and resort," said Gregg Harper, General Manager of Ocean Hammock Resort. "A golf course of Ocean Hammock’s caliber is enhanced even further by having a head golf professional with Mary’s credentials and national reputation."
Hafeman has developed a highly successful two-day golf program that focuses on showing students how they can take their best game from the practice tee to the golf course. Hafeman’s approach combines morning lessons and afternoon play. She analyzes each golfer’s swing on the practice tee and through video review, and plays with students in a foursome to examine ways to maximize shot execution and course management.
"This method allows guests to get on the golf course side by side with a golf professional to better understand how to play the game," said Hafeman, whose two-day school is to be held on the weekend of April 22-23, 2006. "We are always able to help people with their swing, but it doesn’t matter if they can’t apply it to the golf course."
Hafeman, a nationally ranked amateur and collegian before turning pro, is a member of the PGA of America and the LPGA. She was elected to the University of Florida’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998, based on her outstanding collegiate golf career. She was a member of the 1980 U.S. Curtis Cup team and went on to play professionally from 1982 to 1985 until a series of injuries prevented her from participating regularly.
Located on Florida’s northeast coastline, Ocean Hammock Resort is one of the acclaimed communities in the portfolio of Centex Destination Properties in Palm Coast, Fla., that includes Cinnamon Beach®, The Villas at Hammock Beach, Canopy WalkSM and Palm Coast Resort.
