PCS Professional "Class A" Clubmaker Herb Klein, Gemini Golf Services, Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, and PCS Advanced Professional "Class A" Clubmaker Bob Uebelhor, Uebelhor Custom Golf, Indianapolis, Ind., received the 2006 Elmore Just Award in ceremonies held at the 15th Annual PCS International Symposium and Expo in Louisville, Ky., at the Saturday, March 4, 2006, Awards Banquet.
The PCS (Professional CLUBMAKERS’ Society) Elmore Just Award, named in honor of the Society’s founder, is selected by PCS staff. It honors members who have given selflessly of their time and talent to enrich the organization, frequently through behind-the-scenes efforts working with the PCS staff. The Just Award only is presented when a member contribution is deemed worthy of recognition.
Previous Just Award winners are a who’s-who of professional clubmakers: Richard Bodgan and Forest Sandson, 1995; Dynacraft Golf Products staff members Alexandria Lamson, David Stewart and Tom Wishon, 1996; Alex Pali, 1997; Lou Ullrich, 1999; Michael Lee Clark and Dick Wagner, 2000; James Brown and David Eagar, 2002; Michael Lee Clark, Jerry Hoefling, Sr., and Jacques Intriere, 2003; Ryan Blevins, Glenn Loving and Ron Mankin, 2004; and Tim Hewitt and Alan Hubble, 2005.
KLEIN, was an original member of the PCS Education and Training Committee and participated in developing the PCS "Class A" Club Fitter and Club Repairer certifications. He also helped update the PCS "Class A" Clubmaker certification. Klein continues as a grader of the PCS "Class A" Club Fitter skills exam. He participated in the Committee’s creation of the PCS Advanced Fitting School. He was an original presenter of the PCS Club Fitter Tutorial, which is a one-day training program held prior to the annual PCS International Symposium and Expo.
UEBELHOR, is a PCS Charter Member who served two terms on the PCS Board of Directors. He was president and chair of the Board in 1998-99. Also an original member of the PCS Education and Training Committee, he was involved in developing the PCS "Class A" Club Fitter and Club Repairer certifications and updating the PCS "Class A" Clubmaker certification. He is a PCS "Class A" Club Fitter skills exam grader. He helped create the PCS three-day Advanced Fitting School and is a member of the School faculty.
The PCS Just Award winners are recognized in part for their participation in the PCS committee structure, which highlights the grassroots orientation of the organization. PCS is governed by a Board of Directors elected from the membership, and its activities derive from broad committee involvement. PCS is a member-drive organization that provides opportunities for any member to get involved in furthering their profession. Membership is open to anyone interested in professional clubmaking. The annual PCS International Symposium and Expo is the world’s largest independent gathering of professional clubmakers and component suppliers. Held at the Galt House Hotel, Louisville, Ky., the PCS Expo is planned by and for PCS members. It is open to all professional clubmakers. Special discounts are available to first-time, non-member attendees who are sponsored by PCS members. The PCS Expo attracts more than 300 professional clubmakers and 60 component and clubmaking supply vendors to the annual event. The PCS Expo stresses interactive exhibits where clubmakers can meet in-depth with component vendor representatives and test new equipment. Hitting nets are available for demonstrations. Also included in the program agenda are seminars, workshops, information sessions, social events, and the annual Awards Banquet.
PCS, an independent professional society of more than 1,000 clubmakers, offers three certification exams that combine a written exam and a hands-on skills test. It is the most rigorous, continually updated certification process in the clubmaking industry. PCS members pledge adherence to a strict Code of Ethics that prohibits knowingly selling or representing counterfeit components or golf clubs.
