ATLANTA, GA (March 14, 2006) – U.S. Kids Golf announced that legendary golfer Arnold Palmer would serve as honorary chairman for the 2006 U.S. Kids Golf World Championship at historic Pinehurst, N.C., July 26-30.

"The U.S. Kids Golf World Championship is introducing kids at an early age to the enjoyment of competitive golf in a positive environment, where their families and friends can share in their achievements and be part of memories that will last a lifetime," said Palmer, the tournament’s first honorary chairman. "The fact that the tournament is played at Pinehurst makes the experience all the more special."

Dan Van Horn, founder and president of U.S. Kids Golf, said the combination of Palmer’s participation as honorary chairman and Pinehurst as the host facility for the World Championship should boost particiation to record levels. Last year 786 players representing 48 U.S. states and 22 foreign countries participated at Williamsburg, Va., making it the world’s largest golf tournament for kids 4 to 12 years of age.

Three courses at the venerable Pinehurst Resort will be used for the competition. In addition to Pinehurst No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, play also will be conducted on nearby Mid Pines GC, former site of the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur, the Women’s Trans National Amateur and NCAA Division III Women’s Championship; Talamore Resort and Midland Country Club.
