BBC London 94.9FM has joined forces with the London Golf Show to become the event’s official media partner.
The BBC’s flagship local radio station will carry coverage from the show on the show’s opening day, Thursday, April 27, while BBC London TV will also broadcast live from the show the following day.
Last year, Mark Bright presented the sports news live from the teeing area at the floating green while trickshot specialist Jeremy Dale demonstrated a few tricks.
Officials at the London Golf Show and BBC London have decided to take the relationship on to a higher level and were delighted to attribute the ‘official’ tagline.
The London Golf Show’s event director, Jay Tyson, explained: "The BBC is the most respected broadcasting organisation on earth and having the opportunity to work alongside the corporation is not something that happens every day.
"We are delighted to welcome BBC London as our official media partner and are sure listeners and viewers will find plenty to interest them here at the exhibition. It’s great news for us that a national institution is so interested in our event."
David Robey, managing editor of BBC London 94.9FM, explained: "BBC London 94.9 has established itself as the leading sports station in London. We provide a huge amount of coverage of football from Premiership down to the lower leagues and we have extensive commentary deals in cricket and rugby.
"But one of the sports we don’t cover in such depth, which still has a huge following in London, is golf. We did a lot on last year’s show on an informal basis, so it seemed a good idea to get involved and a good opportunity to get our listeners down to the show.
"Radio coverage will lead the partnership but because we have a unique tri-media operation here – with radio, BBC London TV News, and the website – we can provide coverage on three platforms."
The London Golf Show returns to ExCeL, London, from April 27-30, and will cover an area the size of five football pitches, with a four-day retail exhibition aimed at all standards of golfer. Check out the website at: www.londongolfshow.com.
