WEST END, N.C. — The Carolinas Golf Association will introduce a new junior championship in 2006. The "Vicki DiSantis Junior Girls Championship" will be played May 6-7 at Emerald Lake Golf Club in Matthews, N.C.
The championship is open to junior girls who are 12 to 18 years of age, who have not started college by the end of the championship, and who are legal residents of either North Carolina or South Carolina.
The 36-hole stroke-play event has been added to the growing list of CGA junior championships. "As junior golf grows in leaps and bounds, we have seen the need to add a Carolinas-wide girl’s championship" said Jason Cox, CGA junior golf director.
Vicki DiSantis of Pinehurst, N.C. is a member of the USGA Girls’ Junior Championship Committee and "has been the driving force behind the Women’s Carolinas Golf Association’s Twin States (junior girls) Championship and the WCGA Girls Championship," Cox noted. "She has adopted those two championships, organized them, recruited players and conducted the events for many years. We think she is deserving of this recognition.
Entry applications for the Vicki DiSantis Junior Girls Championship will be available from the CGA office and the CGA web site (www.carolinasgolf.org) as of March 1. Applications will be accepted as early as March 27.
