In the month to 15 March 2006 the Golfalot Price Index, which tracks the average price of golf equipment from UK retailers, fell by 1.8%, reversing most of the 2.1% gain in February. February’s gain can be put down to new models arriving in the shops. Therefore this month’s fall could be the result of more competition as the supply of new models reaches all retailers.
However the overall trend masks some big swings in certain categories. The average price of Trolleys fell 13% and drivers by 7%, but these were offset by an 18% rise in the average price of Utility Clubs, a 7% rise in putters and a 4.5% rise in the average bag price. This resulted in the unusual situation of the price index for the Clubs sector rising by 1% whilst the Accessories sector fell by 7%. As the golf season gets underway in April it will be interesting to see if these large price movements continue.
The Golfalot Price Index tracks the prices of the latest model(s) from each manufacturer are chosen as they reach the market so the models tracked always reflect pricing on what the serious golfer wants, the latest technology. Prices are taken from Golfalot.com’s market leading golf equipment price comparison service which tracks all the prices every day from every major UK golf retailer with a national pricing policy.
