SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS — Michael Ambriz, general manager of Long Drivers of America (LDA), the organizing and administrative body for the sport of long drive, has been promoted to vice president of operations, effective immediately.
Ambriz, 37, joined LDA as a customer services representive in 1999. He assumed the role of general manager in 2001.
"Mike has played a key role in the success of this company and the growth of this sport," said LDA owner and chief executive officer Art Sellinger. "Mike’s background as a competitive golfer and PGA professional has been invaluable in shaping LDA’s policies and procedures. He brings a wealth of talent and experience to the tee."
Sellinger also announced that Ambriz has become a miniority stockholder in the privately-held company.
Ambriz will be responsible for LDA’s day-to-day operations, as well as tournament operations for LDA’s three power golf events — the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, the RE/MAX Junior World Long Drive Championship and the Pinnacle Exceptional Driver Championship.
He will also oversee the upcoming expansion and relocation of LDA headquarters to Roanoke, Texas, tentatively scheduled for May.
A native of Devine, Texas, Ambriz played collegiate golf at the University of New Mexico on a top-notch Lobo team that included current PGA Tour players Tim Herron and Kent Jones.
Ambriz represented Puerto Rico in the 1997 World Cup matches at Kiawah Island, S.C.
Ambriz resides with his wife, Desi, and son, Jacob, in Corinth, Texas. Having regained his amateur status, he carries a +1 handicap and has been club champion at Oakmont CC in Corinth on multiple occasions.
