Thousands of Golfers Expected to Visit "Golf Capital of the World" For Golfapalooza Extravaganza And Hootie & the Blowfish’s Monday After the Masters Celebrity Golf Tournament
March 21, 2006, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The third annual Golfapalooza, a spring celebration of golf, returns to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, April 7-10, 2006. Hosted by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday in partnership with The Golf Digest Companies, Golfapalooza is a two-day festival of golf with equipment demonstrations from many of the game’s top manufacturers, skills contests, instructional clinics and live musical entertainment. The Golfapalooza festivities are a prelude to the 12th annual Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After The Masters Celebrity Pro-Am on Monday April 10th at the Dye Club at Barefoot Resort.
Golfapalooza takes place Friday and Saturday, April 7-8 at Legends Resorts with admission free to the public. Golfapalooza will run from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. both days so golfers have the opportunity to test out the newest equipment, compete for more than $25,000 in prizes, receive giveaways and take advantage of special purchase incentives through Martin’s PGA TOUR Superstore.
Golfers will be able to follow the 2006 Masters Tournament on the 24-foot TV screen on the Legends driving range from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday and from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The evenings will end with musical entertainment by local bands on Friday and Saturday nights. For a complete schedule of events, visit www.golfapalooza-mb.com.
Top golf companies including Cleveland Golf, MacGregor, PING, Nike, Callaway, Srixon, Tommy Armour, Bridgestone, Yonex and GolfPride will be on hand to provide custom-club fitting, golf clinics and instruction. Three-time National Golden Tee Champion Steve Sobe will be on hand to challenge all Golden Tee players to a closest-to-the-pin competition.
At night, golfers can compete in several skills challenges including closest-to-the-pin, long drive and putting contests to win prizes, with a chance to win a new Hyundai Azera by sinking a 25-foot putt. Supporting sponsor Hyundai Motor America will also give away a playing spot in the "Monday After the Masters Celebrity Golf Tournament" during a special Golfapalooza contest. After working up a hunger and thirst on the practice range, golfers can feast at the Golfapalooza Foodextravagana with hamburgers, hot dogs, beer, full bar and soft drinks.
Golfapalooza is sponsored by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, Golf Digest Companies, Hyundai Motor America, Nature Valley Granola Bars, Michelob Ultra and Martin’s PGA TOUR Superstore.
"Golfapalooza is just another way that Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday creates the best experience for golfers," said Bill Golden, vice president, director of marketing for Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. "We are thrilled to host Golfapalooza in Myrtle Beach and give golfers the chance to celebrate the game that they love so much and provide an opportunity for major equipment companies to interact with our golfers. We are also excited to include Monday After the Masters as part of the Golfapalooza event this year. Myrtle Beach has something to offer every golfer this weekend."
On Monday April 10, golfers have the opportunity to come out and watch as members of Grammy-Award winning Hootie & the Blowfish welcome celebrities and professional athletes including Arnold Palmer, John Daly, Tom Kite, Steve Spurrier, Dwight Clark, Jim McMahon, Stuart Scott, Kevin Sorbo and many others to their annual Myrtle Beach event. The Monday After the Masters Tournament raises money for the Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation, which supports the educational needs of children and junior golf programs in South Carolina.
To help raise money for their charities, Hootie & the Blowfish donated the band’s first touring van, a 1993 Ford Econoline Conversion Van Explorer, to Sunday night’s Auction at the House of Blues. The van was recently customized by West Coast Customs, the automotive restyling center that handled the conversions on MTV’s "Pimp My Ride," and an important piece of the band’s history will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Monday After the Masters golf tournaments tickets are on sale at the House of Blues, the Barefoot Resort & Golf pro shops and all TicketMaster outlets. Tickets are $10 with children 12 years of age and younger admitted free. For more information, visit www.HootieGolf.com.
