MARLBOROUGH, Mass. April 3, 2006 – Leading up to the first men’s major of the year, CHAMP established great momentum last week, claiming its seventh consecutive PGA Tour victory, while also winning on the European Tour. At the BellSouth Classic in Duluth, GA, the winner trusted CHAMP spikes throughout a record-breaking week, in which he set a new tournament scoring record, became the first three-time winner of the event, and posted the fourth lowest score in relation to par in PGA Tour history. In addition, the top three finishers and nine players in the top 10 (and ties) chose CHAMP.
Across the Atlantic, the winner of the Algarve Open de Portugal also wore CHAMP as he birdied the 72nd hole to claim a one stroke victory on the European Tour. The win was the third for CHAMP on the European Tour in 2006.
In total, at least 49 players at the BellSouth Classic chose CHAMP spikes. The winner was one of at least 19 golfers to opt for the new CHAMP Pro Stingerâ?¢ spikes. The Pro Stinger, a half-plastic/half-metal hybrid, gives professional golfers the security of a metal spike with the comfort and many of the course-friendly qualities of non-metal spikes. Another 30 golfers at the BellSouth, as well as the winner on the European Tour, opted for CHAMP Stingerâ?¢ spikes. With twice the durability of its nearest competitor, the Stinger offers unparalleled traction through primary and secondary elements that provide gripping power, stability and support from the ground up.
With this victory, Champ now owns nine out of 14 PGA Tour titles and three Champions Tour wins in the 2006 season, to go with three victories on the European Tour and one on the LPGA.
Last season 24 winners on the PGA TOUR wore CHAMP spikes.
