For the third consecutive year, Nickent Golf has earned the #1 hybrid title on the Nationwide Tour. The # 1 ranking came at the Livermore Wine Classic last week in California, where 26 players put a 3DX hybrid into play.
Four players with Nickent hybrids finished in the Top 10 of the event.
Nickent began using the Nationwide Tour as a ladder to the PGA Tour in late 2004. The strategy of seeding their product to the up-and-coming Nationwide Tour has paid dividends on both tours: 3DX hybrids are currently the # 2 most played hybrid on the 2006 PGA Tour, according to the Darrell Survey.
"Because we don’t have a stable of endorsed players, we rely on the performance of our golf clubs," said Nickent Director of Marketing Jon Claffey. "We hope to provide return on investment to our players on the leaderboard. In 2006, we have the most Top 10 finishes of any hybrid on the Nationwide Tour and the second most Top 10’s of any hybrid on the PGA Tour. Many of our players scoring these Top 10’s on the PGA Tour have originally come from the Nationwide Tour."
Over 150 players on the PGA and Nationwide Tours have put Nickent clubs into play in the last year, including many of the top ranked players in the world. Helping Nickent further their rise to the top of the hybrid category on the tour has been the introduction of two new hybrids, the 3DX DC Ironwood and 3DX DC Utility.
"The players are as excited as we are about the new technology we debuted in the DC series of hybrids," said Nickent Director of Tour Operations Josh Trivett. "Our main goal is to help these Nationwide players obtain their ultimate goal of playing on the PGA Tour. We are hard at work trying to make things easier for the players, and I believe we have done a lot for them with the new DC series of Nickent products."
To create an even hotter and more forgiving hybrid, Nickent thinned the face of the 3DX DC’s, creating a much higher C.O.R. than the original 3DX Ironwood. Forty grams of weight were moved down and back in the head using two tungsten-polymer fused inserts (XW Inserts). Nickent has used this new weight scheme to create a club that is perfectly weighted to the extreme heel and toe for the straightest and most forgiving setup, all while increasing the MOI by 25%. The XW Inserts are also used to move the center of gravity of the head to insure proper weight distribution and eliminate the "pull hooks" produced by many of the leading hybrid designs.
"It is a lot harder game now because our success has put a target on our back, but we continue to thrive as an underdog," said Trivett. "Every manufacturer has a hybrid now. I believe we are winning over the players due to the undeniable performance benefits of our clubs, the look and setup of our hybrids being beautiful and clean and because we offer more options in loft and ball flight. We have an advantage in the fact that we have been concentrating on hybrids longer than most everyone and because we are already into the next generation of hybrid design with the DC hybrids."
