Karrie Webb has confirmed she will play in the 2006 HSBC Women’s World Match Play Championship at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, New Jersey, 6-9 July 2006.
Webb, who won last week’s Kraft Nabisco Championship, her seventh Major title and 31st career victory, has targeted victory in the HSBC event this season.
Webb said: "At the start of the year, my goal was certainly to start winning tournaments again. I hadn’t won a Major since 2002 so it feels great to have won the first one of the year.
"I want to carry this winning form on through the rest of the season and winning the only match play event on the LPGA calendar – the HSBC Women’s World Match Play Championship – is definitely one of my goals this season. The match play format makes a refreshing change from our usual stroke play tournaments and I am really looking forward to it."
Webb joins Annika Sorenstam, Paula Creamer and Michelle Wie in committing to the 2006 HSBC Women’s World Match Play Championship.
The 2005 HSBC Women’s World Match Play Championship, won by Colombia’s Marisa Baena, marked the first official match play tournament to be played in America in half a century.
HSBC, one of the world’s largest financial services organisations, are proud to sponsor the only individual match play championship in women’s golf and offer a prize fund of US$2 million with a winner’s cheque of $500,000.
Players will compete in 18 holes of head-to-head match play golf culminating in a grand final on Sunday 9 July.
