Executive Committee, Board of Governors Also Elected
Greg Muirhead, a Montclair, N.J.-based golf course architect, was elected President of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) at the organization’s recent 60th Annual Meeting in Pinehurst, N.C.
Muirhead, who has served as an ASGCA officer for the past three years, will also chair the ASGCA Executive Committee. Other members of the Executive Committee include Steve Forrest, Toledo, Ohio, Vice President; Bruce Charlton, Palo Alto, Calif., Treasurer; Doug Carrick, Don Mills, Ontario, Canada, Secretary; and Tom Marzolf, Hendersonville, N.C., Immediate Past President.
Joining members of the Executive Committee on the ASGCA Board of Governors are Cary Bickler, San Diego, Calif.; David Whelchel, Columbus, Ohio; Mike Benkusky, Crystal Lake, Ill.; Les Furber, Canmore, Alberta, Canada; Steve Smyers, Lakeland, Fla.; Garrett Gill, River Falls, Wis.; Vicki Martz, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; and Robin Nelson, Mill Valley, Calif.
Leading Golf Course Architect
Greg Muirhead has worked for Rees Jones, Inc. since 1984 when he graduated from Ball State University with degrees in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design. Among the notable layouts recently designed by Muirhead are 3 Creek Ranch, Jackson Hole, Wyo.; Redstone Golf Club Tournament Course, Humble, Tex.; Nantucket Golf Club, Nantucket Island, Mass.; Oconee Course at Reynolds Plantation, Greensboro, Ga.; and Ocean Forest Golf Club, Sea Island, Ga. His recent remodels and renovations include Bethpage Black, Bethpage State Park, Farmingdale, N.Y.; East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta, Ga.; and Torrey Pines South Course, San Diego, Calif.
Muirhead became a full member of ASGCA in 1991. As an ASGCA member, he has served on the Board of Governors and as Chairman of both the Publications and Membership Committees.
As President, Muirhead will continue to work closely with the Allied Associations of Golf to help grow the game of golf and the golf industry. In particular, he will continue the work of his predecessor, Tom Marzolf, in educating leaders of golf clubs and courses about the importance of master planning. He will also work with ASGCA staff and members to complete a long-range plan for the organization.
Muirhead resides in Verona, N.J. with his wife Laurie and two children.
ASGCA Background
Founded in 1946 by 14 leading architects, including Donald Ross and Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the American Society of Golf Course Architects is a non-profit organization comprised of 176 golf course designers located throughout the United States and Canada. Members are actively involved in the design of new courses, the renovation of existing layouts, and issues affecting the future of the game.
