European Team To Wear ProQuip’s Innovative New Silk Touch Rain Suit
Ponte Vedra Beach, FL — (April 10, 2006) ProQuip, one of the world’s leading golf weatherwear manufacturers, has been named the Preferred Supplier of weatherwear to The 2006 European Ryder Cup Team at The K Club in County Kildare, Ireland from September 22-24, 2006.
Ryder Cup Europe LLP announced the agreement with ProQuip, which will provide the wet weather clothing for Captain Ian Woosnam’s European Team and Backroom Staff. ProQuip also will provide weatherwear to all event officials, marshals, scorekeepers and security personnel.
Ian Woosnam said: "As Captain, I am involved in selecting the waterproof suit that the Team will wear. It is vital that the players stay dry and comfortable in adverse weather conditions – and I am confident that we have the right garment in ProQuip Silk Touch."
ProQuip will create a customized color and design of its innovative new Silk Touch weatherwear for the European Ryder Cup Team. The breakthrough Silk Touch fabric, developed exclusively by ProQuip over the past three years, features a silky soft and virtually silent outer fabric, plus unique stretchy lining for ultimate playing performance and comfort. The suit is 15% lighter than ProQuip’s industry leading and multi award-winning Ultralite range.
ProQuip, founded in 1981 and based in the historic golfing town of North Berwick in Scotland, is synonymous with ultra-lightweight and supremely soft waterproof- breathable golf clothing, with their exclusive, innovative fabrics and award-winning garments leading the industry for a quarter of a century. ProQuip’s United States headquarters are based in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
The European Tour has enjoyed a strong relationship with ProQuip over the past two decades, firstly as an Official Supplier to the Tour and, on nine occasions since 1985, as Preferred Supplier of Weatherwear to The European Ryder Cup Team.
ProQuip managing director and chief designer, Richard Head, said: "This will be the sixth European Ryder Cup Team I have designed suits for – and the garment Ian and the Team will be wearing at The K Club next year represents a quantum leap forward in weatherwear technology. In the same way ProQuip’s suits revolutionized the golf market in the 1980s and 1990s, so this suit will change the way we think about waterproofs today and in the future."
Randy Payne, president of ProQuip USA, added: "Being appointed Preferred Supplier of Weatherwear to The 2006 European Ryder Cup Team is another significant milestone for ProQuip – and one that we are extremely proud of. It sends a message all around the golfing world – from Scotland to Europe, America and now new golfing nations such as China – that ProQuip is the global leader in golf weatherwear."
