MARLBOROUGH, Mass. April 10, 2006 – With the best players in the world crowding the leaderboard on the final day of the Masters, it was no surprise to find one common thread between them – CHAMP spikes. The 2006 Masters Champion, along with seven of the top 10 finishers, relied on CHAMP for the ultimate in comfort, traction, and durability during a long weekend which included thunderstorms, treacherous footing, and a grueling Sunday finish that required the final groups to walk over 30 holes. The win continues a dominating streak for CHAMP, which has now claimed eight consecutive wins on the PGA Tour.
The CHAMP Stingerâ?¢ has been the overwhelming choice of champions this season on the PGA Tour. Designed with input from thousands of professional and amateur golfers from all over the world, the Stinger features superior traction and a revolutionary visible wear indicator that lets golfers know when it is time to change their spikes. In total, 17 players at Augusta National opted for the new CHAMP Stingerâ?¢ spikes. In addition, at least another eight golfers, including the winner, trusted the Pro Stingerâ?¢, a half-plastic/half-metal hybrid, which gives professional golfers the security of a metal spike with the comfort and many of the course-friendly qualities of non-metal spikes.
With this victory, CHAMP now owns 10 out of 15 PGA TOUR titles and three Champions Tour wins in the 2006 season, to go with three victories on the European Tour and one on the LPGA.
Last season 24 winners on the PGA TOUR wore CHAMP spikes.
