Far Hills, N.J. – Bryan Park Golf & Conference Center, in Greensboro, N.C., has been selected by the United States Golf Association as the site of the 2010 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. The dates of the championship are July 12-17.
The Champions Course at Bryan Park was designed by Rees Jones and opened in 1990. The course features 97 sand bunkers, numerous grass bunkers and hollows with seven holes bordering Lake Townsend. The course is hosting its first USGA championship.
The course was named after Joseph and Kathleen Bryan in recognition of their contributions to the City of Greensboro. The Joseph M. Bryan Foundation and the City of Greensboro support Bryan Park, which consists of 1,550 acres and includes two championship golf courses, a conference center, soccer fields, walking trails and a marina.
"Showcasing Bryan Park through the Amateur Public Links is a wonderful opportunity for our facility and community," said David Taylor, president of Pinnacle Golf Properties and Bryan Park Management Group, which operates the facility. "The event allows Bryan Park to shine in a national spotlight and be recognized as a true test for these great amateur golfers. We are grateful to the USGA for our selection."
Bryan Park has hosted many events, including the NCAA Women’s East Regional, the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Championship, and the North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship. The annual Bryan Park National Collegiate, featuring 18 of the top women’s collegiate teams, and the J.M. Bryan Amateur, with 120 top amateur players from the East Coast are also played there.
Prior to 2010, the U.S. Amateur Public Links will be played at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Wash., from July 10-15, 2006; at Cantigny Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill, from July 9-14, 2007; at Murphy Creek Golf Course in Aurora, Colo., from July 14-19, 2008; and at the University of Oklahoma’s Jimmie Austin Golf Course in Norman, from July 13-18, 2009.
The U.S. Amateur Public Links, open to amateur golfers who are bona fide public course players and hold a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 8.4, is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are solely for amateurs.
