MARIETTA, Ga. – Entries are now being accepted for the 41st annual Georgia Junior Championship, which takes place June 19-21 at The Landings Club in Savannah. This event is open to male amateur golfers between the ages of 14 and 17 as of June 19, who are Georgia residents and GSGA members or dependents of GSGA members.
The format of the event is 54 holes of stroke play with the 144-player field being cut to the low 70 and ties after 36 holes. Last year, Cedartown’s Ryan Zebeau carded a two-under 211 for the championship to win by one stroke.
Entries are also being accepted for the 27th annual Georgia Girls’ Championship, which will also take place June 19-21 at Laurel Springs Golf Club in Suwanee. This event is open to female amateur golfers between the ages of 9 and 17 as of June 19, who are Georgia residents and GSGA members or dependents of GSGA members.
The format is 54 holes of stroke play for the Championship flight, 36 holes for the 15-18 and 12-14 age divisions, and 18 holes (nine per day) for the 9-11 year old division. Atlanta’s Jennifer Adyorough fired rounds of 74, 74 and 76 to capture her second straight title by thirteen shots. Adyorough became the sixth player in the championship’s history to tally multiple victories.
Qualified players may enter online at the GSGA website (www.gsga.org) by clicking the Online Registration quick link. Paper entries are available by request and may also be downloaded as a PDF file via the GSGA website. The deadline for entries is Wednesday, May 4 at 5:00 p.m.
Also, entries will be closing on April 19 for the Georgia Senior Tournament, which takes place May 9-11 at Orchard Hills Golf Club in Newnan. This event is open to male amateur golfers age 55 and up as of May 9, who have USGA handicap indexes of 3.0 or above, are GSGA members and Georgia residents.
The format of the event is 54 holes of stroke play over three days. The field will be flighted and the event will use the Stableford scoring system. In 2005, Decatur’s Matt O’Brien tallied 101 points over the three-day period to capture the event, then called the Georgia Senior Challenge, which was held at Sunset Country Club in Carrollton.
Entry periods are also currently open for the Greater Atlanta Women’s Amateur Championship (through May 3) and the Georgia Amateur Championship (through May 10).
