BLUE BELL, Pa. — (April 12, 2006) – With the hiring of Paul and Jennifer Barnsley to lead the golf professional team at Meadowlands CC in Blue Bell, Pa., the membership has made a bold statement and announced an unwavering commitment to golf instruction.
The husband-wife tandem brings to Meadowlands some of the most impressive set of teaching credentials of anyone in the Philadelphia Section PGA. Their hiring, plus a list of improvements to the entire instructional and practice atmosphere at Meadowlands issues a startling announcement to the golf community.
"We intend to become the premier instruction and learning facility in the entire Delaware Valley," said Rich Ochroch, golf chairman at Meadowlands.
"The Barnsleys are at the core of our instruction movement," added Ochroch. "But we are also putting a lot of effort into our facility. We already have two great short game practice areas, two putting greens and a large grass range with distance marked target greens. We are currently building a state of the art indoor video teaching facility that will be unparalleled in the area."
The Barnsleys, who are accomplished at teaching everyone from beginners to skilled professionals, have been hard at work creating an instructional program for Meadowlands. The remarkable part about their program is that they have also made a public announcement welcoming golfers from anywhere to take advantage of the instructional and practice facilities at Meadowlands.
"We feel this is one of the finest places to learn to play the game of golf, or, if you are an accomplished player, to take your game to the next level", explained Ochroch. "Not only do we have great practice facilities, but we have a golf course that, because membership is limited, is rarely crowded and, depending which tee box a player selects, is suitable for both beginners or low handicap players. We want people to come here and feel comfortable about learning a great game – and we have the two best people in the entire area to make that happen."
Paul Barnsley spent last year as head professional of the Militia Hill Course at Philadelphia Cricket Club. Before that he spent 10 years with renowned teacher Hank Haney, working at his golf schools in Texas.
A native of Australia, Barnsley produced an impressive competitive record that included 23 victories, mostly in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. He also holds 11 course records.
Jennifer Barnsley’s resume is equally impressive. A former LPGA Tour player, who grew up in Northeast Philadelphia and learned to play the game at Torresdale-Frankford CC, she is also a PGA of America Class A member as well as an LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Class A member. She also was an instructor with Hank Haney for 12 years and gained particular expertise working with female golfers. Last year she worked as a teaching professional at Cedarbrook CC.
Both Barnsleys also worked extensively with another renowned golf instructor, Jim Hardy.
