Hall of Famer Serves on Women’s Golf Association’s Foundation Board
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, April 24, 2006 – When LPGA Legends Tour and Hall of Famer Patty Sheehan won the Senior Golf Ladies Open Championship in Gotemba Japan last week, thousands of members of the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) had added reasons to cheer. As the 2006 Honorary Chair of the EWGA Member-Get-A-Member program, Sheehan has issued a personal challenge to recruit more members for this nationwide organization that has more than 115 chapters in 39 states.
"Patty is such an inspiration and believes so much in the EWGA and promoting the growth of women’s golf. We are honored to have her serve on the EWGA Foundation board of directors as well as heading EWGA’s membership campaign," says Karen Furtado, president of the EWGA Foundation, the charitable organization supported by the EWGA. "She’ll be at our annual fundraising event held at the US Women’s Open in Newport, Rhode Island in June and at the EWGA Annual Conference in November. How’s that for added incentive to join the EWGA?"
The EWGA Foundation was founded in 2003 to develop premier golf education and leadership development programs for women. It’s "EWGA at the U.S. Women’s Open" charity event is open to all interested and includes a Thursday night dinner and silent auction at the Newport Country Club, a Friday morning golf tournament and a seasons pass to the Open. Proceeds benefit the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program. See www.ewga.com ( Events) or call Nancy Matus 561-691-0096 ext 14 for more information.
Since the EWGA started in 1991, more than 75,000 women have benefited from membership in the organization which is dedicated to providing opportunities to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life. EWGA chapters throughout the United States and into Canada offer a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers.
"Every EWGA member I meet tells me they ‘love the organization’," says Sheehan, a member of the EWGA Northern Nevada chapter. "I encourage all women who care about golf to consider joining a local chapter. And if there isn’t one in your area, start one. Maybe you’ll be the membership recruiter of the year and win the chance to play golf with me."
The EWGA is a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. For more information about the association, membership, and the EWGA Foundation visit www.ewga.com.
