SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS — The 2006 RE/MAX Junior World Long Drive Championship, set for July 13-16 at Doral Tesoro Golf Club in Fort Worth, has added a family dimension involving LDA members.

Southlake-based Long Drivers of America announced today that LDA members who accompany RE/MAX Junior World Long Drive Championship contestants to Fort Worth this summer will be eligible to compete for cash prizes during a special adult long drive competition that has been added to the tournament agenda. There is no entry fee for the adult LDA members.

"LDA members will have an opportunity to compete in Fort Worth if their sons and daughters, or nieces and nephews, or even cousins once or twice removed are entered in the RE/MAX junior event," said Art Sellinger, LDA owner and chief executive officer. "We don’t care about the nature of the family ties, as long as they exist."

Sellinger added: "Our aim is to create a long drive legacy within families. We want to give LDA members a compelling reason to get their children, as well as other relatives, involved in our sport."

The RE/MAX JWLDC, now in its fifth year, features long drive competition for junior golfers in eight age groups. Boys and girls champions are crowned in the following divisions: 9-under, 10-12, 13-15, 16-18.

Registration for the all-comers event ends on May 31, 2006. The entry fee is $100. To register, call (888) 233-4654. Rules and regulations for the 2006 RE/MAX Junior World Long Drive Championship are posted at www.longdrivers.com.

"Many long drivers already have their children playing golf," Sellinger noted. "We’d like them to get their children involved in long drive competition, as well."

Sellinger said LDA plans to pay the top three finishers in the special adult competition, which will take place on Saturday evening, July 15, a day ahead of the RE/MAX junior finals on Sunday afternoon, July 16. "We think competitors in the RE/MAX junior finals will get a thrill out of watching LDA members battle it out. They’ll get a real feel for what the sport is all about."
