PACOIMA, Calif. — The new ultra-premium Mugen graphite shaft, engineered by Harrison Sports, scored Top 10 honors at this weekend’s Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, delivering an impressive performance in consistency and accuracy. Meanwhile on the PGA Tour, Harrison chalked up its second Top 10 of the weekend with a sixth-place finish by a 22-year veteran player using a Harrison Pro 2.5 shaft at the Shell Houston Open.
The Pro 2.5 is one of Harrison’s all-time most successful shafts, however, the Mugen is new for 2006 and it has immediately garnered attention by the pros. Crafted from the industry’s most technologically advanced graphite materials, the Harrison Mugen is the result of extensive research and development that produces higher launch angles with lower ball spin rates to maximize distance.
"It’s only been a matter of weeks since we first introduced the Mugen on the pro tours, and we’re very pleased to see that its performance is already making an impact on the Top 10 winnings," says Michael Cheng, president of Harrison Sports. "The technology that went into the Mugen shaft is quite unlike any other shaft on the market today. Featuring a lighter weight design, yet with a stronger tip and higher performance capabilities, the Mugen is just what the golf industry has been looking for."
The Mugen features the fusion of Ultra Thin Ply (UTP) prepreg — a thin, flat sheet of graphite fiber bonded by epoxy resin weighing only 50-70 grams per square meter compared to typical graphite prepreg that can weigh in excess of 150 grams – and satellite-grade graphite fiber. This process allows for a consistent shaft at lighter weights, therefore allowing players to generate higher swing speeds to increase distance.
In addition, single-walled carbon nanotubes are embedded throughout the shaft’s tip section to further strengthen and enhance its durability and performance. The result is a highly stable shaft with low torque to minimize shaft twisting at impact and a significant stiffness contrast between the shaft’s tip and butt to promote a high launch/low spin ball flight to maximize distance. The Mugen shaft is available in 55, 65, 75 and 85 gram options, with torque ranging from 3.8-2.5.
Harrison shafts are among the top five of the most-used graphite shafts in the world. Technologically superior and eye-catching in appearance, Harrison has become a popular and growing choice among professionals, clubmakers and golf enthusiasts.
