SEATTLE, Wash. (April 24, 2006) -Women and men who want to help in the fight against breast cancer are invited to join members of the Seattle Chapter of the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) at a charity tournament to support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. With a fund-raising goal of $25,000, the June 10 tournament features fun competitions on and around the course, a buffet dinner and a charity raffle.
The event, to be held at McCormick Woods Golf Course in Port Orchard, begins at noon with check-in, followed by a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. The awards dinner and raffle is set for approximately 7 p.m.
Tournament director Connie Miller said she hopes for a full field of 144 players (36 foursomes). Individuals and teams representing their own families, local businesses or public and private golf courses are invited. "Non-golfers can support this important cause by volunteering, donating raffle prizes, being a sponsor or making a tax-deductible memorial donation," Miller remarked.
The $150 entry fee includes the green fee and cart, range balls, tee prizes, a mulligan package and the buffet dinner. Twenty-five dollars from each entry fee, plus all proceeds from sponsorships and raffle ticket sales are earmarked for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Registration forms are online at www.ewgaseattle.org. May 27 is the registration deadline.
Rally participants will receive a custom utility pouch, a Komen wristband and a breast cancer awareness piece with pink ribbon reminder stickers for their calendars.
Various sponsorship opportunities are available, Miller said, ranging from $150 for tee box sponsorships up to $2,500 for the title sponsorship, with several options in between.
Miller said the tournament will be played as a "shamble format," with each player hitting a tee shot. Players will select their team’s best drive, and each golfer then plays his or her own ball until the hole is finished. The lowest of the four scores is recorded as the team score. Prizes will be awarded for women’s, men’s and mixed teams.
Golfers will also compete for prizes at competitions held at various holes and on the putting green.
Teams are encouraged to wear their favorite Rally apparel for photographs by Team Photogenics, a new feature this year that is being sponsored by Alliance Communications of Bellevue. The gallery of photos will be available for viewing online after the tournament and Team Photogenics will donate 25 percent of any sale to the Komen Foundation.
