Already seven stars from the current top 20 in the world rankings have registered for the golfing highlight
Hamburg/Alveslohe, April 25th 2006: The highest purse ever having been offered at a sport-ing event on German soil – a total amount of euro 3.6 million – lures the world’s golfing elite to Hamburg this year. From July 27 to 30, seven top players from the current top 20 in the world rankings are expected to appear at the Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe. Retief Goosen, Luke Donald, Padraig Harrington, Henrik Stenson, Colin Montgomerie, David Howell and Darren Clarke have already given their firm commit-ment to the organiser and promoter. The runner up in this years US Masters tournament, Tim Clark (Official World Golf Ranking: 14), would like to take part in the title race 2006 at Gut Kaden for the first time. Furthermore former tournament winners Padraig Harrington, Lee Westwood and Bernhard Langer as well as current US Open champion Michael Campbell are expected at the championship course of the Gut Kaden Golf und Land Club. The first-rate competitors’ field is completed by last year’s three first-placed golfers: title defendant Niclas Fasth, Angel Cabrera from Argentina – who only had to admit defeat in the play-offs – and spectators’ darling John Daly.
When asked to comment on the tournament week in the summer Hanns-Michael Hölz, Man-aging Director Corporate Sport Sponsoring of Deutsche Bank AG, excitedly said: "Once more has the excellent position of the Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe on the in-ternational tournament calendar been confirmed by the firm commitments of the world-class professionals. I am looking forward to exciting tournament days offering top sports and I already wish all spectators on site and the many golfing fans in front of their TV screens all over the world an eventful time watching The Best of Golf".
