CHARLOTTE – Huntersville’s Joe Jaspers recently posted the lowest round in the 12-year history of the Charlotte division of the Amateur Golf Tour.
Jaspers fired a six-under-par 65 to win the Charlotte AGT event at Warrior Golf Club in China Grove on April 15. He made four birdies through the first 16 holes before adding an eagle on the par-5 17th. He closed with a par on the final hole for a bogey-free round of 65.
Not only is it the lowest round in Charlotte AGT history, it is also the lowest competitive round turned in by an amateur at Warrior Golf Club. Additionally, Jaspers’ 65 ties for the second lowest score ever shot in all Amateur Golf Tour divisions across the country.
Jaspers has played the Charlotte AGT for seven years and won the local points title in the Championship Flight in 2005. In 2002, he was crowned the tour’s national champion by virtue of his victory in the Amateur Golf Tour Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The next event on the Charlotte AGT schedule is this Saturday at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe. For information on the tour, call (704) 844-8264, or visit www.amateurgolftour.net.
