Oswego, IL – SMT Golf, The 5-Time RE/MAX World Long Drive Champions and winners of hundreds of LDA Tour events, has joined the list of tournament sponsors for the upcoming 2006 Texas Shoot-Out, a Long Drivers of America (LDA) "Members Only" event. The event takes place May 3-6 at Hank Haney’s City Pointe Driving Range in Dallas, Texas.
Participation in this top-tier professional long drive event, which features competition in two divisions, open and senior (45+), is restricted to LDA members.
Southlake-based Long Drivers of America, headed by two-time national long drive champion Art Sellinger, annually conducts the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, the premier event in power golf.
The Texas Shoot-Out will have a field of 48 open division competitors and 24 seniors. Based on a full field in each division, the purse will be a minimum of $60,000.
Top finishers in each division will advance to head-to-head match-play finals, tentatively scheduled for mid-day on Saturday.
A total of 27 Texas Shoot-Out competitors (14 open, 13 senior) will be exempt from on-site qualifying. Exempt hitters, among others, are reining RE/MAX World Long Drive Champions Sean (The Beast) Fister, Gerry James and Steve Griffith; members of the LDA Hall of Fame including four-time world champion Jason Zuback; 2005 Alpha Long Drive Classic champions Brooks Baldwin (Open) and Bobby Wilson (Senior).
"We’re very honored to have the chance to step up and sponsor an LDA Tour event like this," said Mike Tait, President of SMT Golf. "The long drive competitors have always been huge supporters of our components. This is a great opportunity to thank them for that support. Art and all the folks associated with the LDA have done an incredible job. The venue at The RE/MAX World Long Drive Championships in Mesquite has grown by leaps and bounds and brought a lot of well-deserved attention to the sport and these amazing competitors."
