(Allendale, Mich.)—PGA Master Professional Charley Vandenberg will be opening the Vandenberg Golf Academy at The Meadows Golf Club in Allendale this golf season. The Michigan PGA Section’s Teacher of the Year for 1997 and 2003, Vandenberg has gained a national reputation for his teaching prowess.
"One of the cornerstones of The Meadows and Grand Valley State University is offering top-notch instructional services in keeping with our educational mission," says Terry Sack, General Manager of The Meadows. "Having someone of Charley’s teaching caliber will only enhance the Golf Academy’s reputation as the place in West Michigan to improve one’s game."
"I’m very pleased to be associated with The Meadows," says Vandenberg, previously the longtime head golf professional at Kent Country Club. "Teaching has always been a passion of mine and I’m excited to continue sharing my knowledge and experience with new, current and former students."
Vandenberg joins Scot Dowling as teaching professionals who now make The Meadows their West Michigan base for private golf instruction this golf season. Also providing instruction will be longtime Meadows’ PGA golf professionals Don Underwood (also the GVSU men’s golf coach) Byde Kephart, and Lori Stinson, GVSU women’s golf coach.
Opened in 1994, The Meadows is located 15 miles west of Grand Rapids on the campus of Grand Valley State University. In May, it will host its fifth NCAA national championship when the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Finals is conducted. Golf Digest magazine recognized The Meadows as one of only twenty Michigan courses earning a prestigious "four-and-a-half stars" (out of five) destination ranking in its bi-annual reader surveys. The Golf Academy is also well-regarded throughout the area and the state for its excellent practice facilities and its array of instructional programs. For the past several seasons, The Meadows also has hosted the David Leadbetter Golf Academy.
