Wadkins and Simpson join Kansas City field

Commitments continue for annual Champions Tour event

Overland Park, Kansas – The Greater Kansas City Golf Classic announced today that Lanny Wadkins and Scott Simpson have committed to play in Kansas City’s Champions Tour event. This year’s event will be held June 26 – July 2, 2006 at The Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, Kan. Sprint Nextel, HCA Midwest Health System, Garmin, and Cerner are the title sponsors.

Wadkins has won once on the Champions Tour — the 2000 Ace Group Classic. During his successful career on the PGA Tour, Wadkins won 21 events, including the 1977 PGA Championship. He has earned more than $6 million during his career. Wadkins plays a limited schedule on the Champions Tour due to commitments as a golf analysts for CBS.

Simpson, is a new face on the Champions Tour. He turned 50 in September of 2005, and has played in 12 Champions Tour events to date. He has two second place finishes and is currently 12th on the Official Money List with $405,905. Simpson has 7 career PGA Tour victories including the 1987 U.S. Open.

The Greater Kansas City Golf Classic, will be held June 26 – July 2, 2006 at The Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, Kan. The unique format of the Greater Kansas City Golf Classic offers golf fans the chance to see 76 Champions TOUR legends team up with 76 amateurs in a team format, similar to the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. The low 12 teams with scores posted during the Friday and Saturday Pro-Am will advance into Sunday’s final round.

The Greater Kansas City Golf Classic is managed by The Pride of Kansas City Foundation and benefits local children’s charities.
