MARIETTA, Ga. – Entries will be closing on May 10 for the Georgia Amateur Championship, which takes place July 13-16 at Coosa Country Club in Rome. This event is open to male amateur golfers who are GSGA members and Georgia residents.
The format of the event is 72 holes of stroke play over four days with the field being cut to the low 70 and ties after 36 holes. Last year, Brian Harman of Savannah birdied three of his last eight holes and carded a final-round, three-under 68 to secure the Georgia Amateur Championship at The Savannah Golf Club. Harman, who was recently named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year after a strong season with the University of Georgia men’s golf team, finished two strokes ahead of 2003 Georgia Amateur Champion David Noll Jr. of Dalton, while his final-round playing partners, Jay Moseley of Bainbridge and Doug Hanzel of Savannah, finished three and four strokes back.
Eighteen-hole qualifying rounds for the Georgia Amateur Championship begin June 5 and run through June 26 at 10 sites located throughout the state.
