MALVERN, Pa. — (May 4, 2006) – With honorary chairman Ukee Washington — the popular morning news anchor for CBS-3 television in Philadelphia — leading the way, an impressive field of celebrities is in place for the 3rd Annual Divine 9 Open Celebrity Pro-Am golf team championship at White Manor CC on Friday, May 19.

Also lending their special brand of excitement to the playing field that day and the after-golf party will be Preston Elliott from WMMR’s Preston and Steve Morning Show and local rock and roll hero Tommy Conwell.

In addition the tournament committee received early commitments from an interesting mix of celebrities from the sports, radio and television fields.

The list includes former star athletes such as Gary Dornhoeffer and Brian Propp from the Philadelphia Flyers "Broad Street Bullies" days, 76er and Celtic guard Gerald Henderson, American League MVP Bobby Shantz, Dwayne McClain from the Villanova national championship team, Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro wide receiver Mike Quick, Notre Dame All-America linebacker John Pergine (Rams and Redskins) and Eagles hometown favorite and soon-to-be movie legend Vince Papale. Temple University basketball coach Fran Dunphy will represent the coaching ranks.

Media luminaries such as radio legend and host of the Inside Golf television show Don Cannon, former NFL defensive back Beasley Reece of CBS-3, WPEN Golf Show host Mike Rose, Daily News golf writer Mike Kern, Jeff Asch and Brandon Brooks from KYW radio, Philadelphia Inquirer sportswriter Joe Juliano, and Comcast SportsNet reporter Matt Biondi will make the day even more exciting.

A few spots still remain for amateurs wishing to play in the morning Pro-Am shotgun or the afternoon Celebrity-Corporate shotgun. To reserve a spot or for more information on the tournament, call the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society office at 610-521-8274 ext. 228, or go to the website at www.divine9open.org.

The third Divine 9 Open will be held at White Manor CC and it benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In its first two years, the tournament raised more than $290,000 for blood cancer research. The 2006 presenting sponsors are Axis Construction Services, Merriman Curhan and Ford, and Sophia – a development of Polygon Partners.
