World’s Number 5 Collects his 11th Career Win
ATLANTA – May 8, 2006 Srixon Staff Professional Jim Furyk won his first tournament of the year at the Wachovia Championship on Sunday, May 7, 2006 at Quail Hallow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. Furyk capitalized on his rock solid short game to par the 72nd hole of the tournament for a chance at a playoff. Furyk, who shot a 12-under par, 276 total (68-69-68-71), won on the first playoff hole relying on Srixon’s W-506 driver, I-506 irons, Srixon’s Z-UR prototype ball, and Srixon wedges. With this win Furyk moved up two spots and is now ranked 5th in the world. It was the 11th victory of his illustrious PGA Tour career which includes the 2003 U.S. Open.
On first hole of sudden death on Quail Hollow’s demanding 18th hole, Furyk relied on his precision, feel and ability to get the ball in the hole to make a gutsy par for the win. Faced with a second shot of 197 yards out of a fairway bunker to a green guarded tightly by water and high rough, Furyk sent his Z-UR prototype high out of the bunker and let it ride the wind to the front edge of the green. His ensuing 2-putt capped the victory. "One of the great things about having trust in your equipment is to be able to execute when you are faced with difficult shots under pressure," said Furyk.
"When you have that confidence, it lets you commit to the shot and swing because you know if you do, the clubs and balls will do what they’re supposed to do. The Z-UR reacted beautifully out of that bunker and carried to the front edge of a tough green. And with the feel I have with it gave me the confidence to make a positive stroke to win the tournament. There’s no better feeling than that," added Furyk. "A golf course as demanding as Quail Hollow requires complete control over your golf ball. With Srixon’s 506 driver and irons and the Z-UR, I most certainly had the type of control I needed to win."
Furyk, who has had a fantastic year thus far with 5 Top 10s-four of those being Top 3s-is now ranked second on the PGA TOUR money list. Additionally on TOUR, he ranks first in scoring average and 3rd in driving accuracy percentage (75.5%).
Furyk has now surpassed the $26 million mark in career earnings. Astoundingly, he now has 99 Top-10 finishes in 326 career starts, a 30.1% average.
Srixon staff professionals have now collected a total of 17 Top 10s on the PGA TOUR this season.
