MAUMEE, OHIO — AboutGolf announced its branding and support as the official North American distributor of South Africa-based EDH Sport’s FlightScope. Employing advanced military grade ball-tracking technology, FlightScope offers two models of golf club head and golf ball tracking devices. This unique technology collects more data than conventional launch monitors.
FlightScope Racket Radar is used extensively on the WTA and ATP tennis tours, the Wimbledon Championships and the Davis Cup. The FlightScope speed gun is used in cricket worldwide.
"After seven grueling years of scientific development, coupled with extensive testing, the new generation of FlightScope launch monitors are going to make a big impact in North America," says Bill Bales, Chief Executive Officer. "AboutGolf does not put its name and reputation behind external products unless they are extraordinary and the new FlightScopes more than meet ours or any industry standards."
AboutGolf—the world’s leading manufacturer of indoor golf simulators—already employs EDH ball-tracking technology in its golf simulators. The already-strong relationship between AboutGolf and EDH is the perfect foundation for a continued strong future for both thanks to the new North American distributorship arrangement. AboutGolf simulators are currently used exclusively by Golf Town of Canada, Golf Galaxy, PGA Tour Superstores, Edwin Watts and many other golf retailers.
AboutGolf’s two new FlightScope models, ‘Kudu’ and ‘Cheetah’, were unveiled at the 2006 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla. Both models apply a proprietary design of phased array microwave technology to accurately track golf balls in flight for up to 300 yards. FlightScope provides teaching professionals, retail pro shops, tour players and teaching academies the ability to measure the actual club and ball dynamics during a shot. Both models measure head speed and direction before impact. After impact the ball’s velocity, vertical and horizontal launch angles and spin are directly measured.
The clubfitter can see the club-velocity increase just prior to impact relative to the impact club speed. The ratio between the two allows for accurate custom-clubfitting data. It also measures the last 1/2000 second of the club head speed before ball impact that provides the club fitter with valuable data for correct shaft selection.
"I am excited to become so involved with FlightScope technology for AboutGolf," says Chuck Winger, AboutGolf’s VP-Director of Sales for Golf Lab Technologies. "FlightScope’s use for club fitting, swing instruction and gathering golfer data make it a great tool to promote the game—indoors and out."
FlightScope Cheetah is an outdoor ball trajectory monitor that can provide a 3D flight-path measurement of a golf ball with great accuracy. Cheetah boasts the market’s most extensive set of measured parameters. It measures true 3D data for the club and the ball, as well as ball spin directly, with no special ball marking required, at unsurpassed accuracies. The base retail price for Cheetah is $16,950.
FlightScope Kudu, meanwhile, is an ideal alternative to high-end launch monitors. It is a flight monitor featuring the market’s most extensive set of measured parameters. Unlike imitations and camera products, Kudu directly measures true 3D data and ball spin at accuracies unachievable by the competition. (Kudu measures the club head and ball outdoors and indoors. Indoors provides accurate data in as little as 10- 12 feet of ball flight). The base retail price for Kudu is $6,950.
AboutGolf is an 18-year-old Maumee, Ohio-based company that’s a subsidiary of Friendly Software. AboutGolf has produced Microsoft Golf, Greg Norman Ultimate Challenge Golf, and World Tours, which is the world’s most widely distributed golf simulation.
