Winning World Am Duo Will be the United States Representative in the 2007 International Pairs World Final in St. Andrews, Scotland
May 10, 2006, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship will host the United States Qualifier for International Pairs Competition during the 23rd annual tournament to be held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, August 28 – September 1, 2006.
Golfers can select their partner for the competition or request to be paired with another World Am golfer. The two golfers’ combined net scores will be kept through the four rounds of the World Am with the top 20 teams advancing to Friday’s 18-hole final at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club on Friday, September 1. The winning team will represent the United States and receive an all-expenses paid trip to the 2007 International Pairs World Final at the acclaimed St. Andrews Bay Golf Resort and Spa in Scotland where they will compete against other two-person teams from around the world. Gift certificates will also be awarded to the top-finishers in the team competition.

Founded in 1998 to celebrate the millennium, International Pairs has grown into a global golf phenomenon that attracts tens of thousands of golfers from around the world. To participate in International Pairs, golfers must be registered for the 2006 PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship. The entry fee is $480 prior to July 10th and after the July 10th deadline, the entry fee increases to $515 for all golfers. Golfers that register for the U.S Qualifier for the International Pairs will be competing in the individual World Am competition and the team event.
Entry into the World Am includes four rounds of golf and a gift bag with more than $150 in merchandise. The entry fee also provides the golfer and guest with a pass to the World’s Largest 19th Hole, the tournament’s nightly party in the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
The PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship, the world’s largest single-site golf tournament, is a 72-hole tournament played on 66 Myrtle Beach area golf courses each August. Participants compete for the right to be crowned World Amateur Golf Champion and to win some of the more than $500,000 in prizes given away at the tournament.
Each evening after tournament play, participants and their guests attend the "World’s Largest 19th Hole" which includes an extensive golf exposition, equipment demos, entertainment, open bars, prize drawings and dinner buffet featuring 15 of Myrtle Beach’s best restaurants. Returning to the 19th Hole again in 2006 is the 40,000 square foot PGA TOUR Superstore interactive experience featuring merchandise from leading golf equipment and apparel manufacturers; clinics from leading instructors, as well as game improvement areas, skill contests and games for participants and guests to enjoy.
For the third year, the "Villa Quest Contest" will award the tournament’s largest prize, a luxurious golf villa adjacent to one of the Grand Strand’s best golf courses. Valued at approximately $150,000, the villa will be awarded to the World Am golfer who sinks a 10-foot putt Thursday night at the 19th Hole. All golfers are eligible to win the villa and the event begins Tuesday with a closest-to-the pin contest in each flight. The closest-to-the-pin winners advance to the semi-finals at the 19th Hole on Wednesday night where they will attempt a 25-foot putt for the right to compete in the finals. On Thursday night, the finalists will engage in a putting contest from 10 feet and the winner walking away as the owner of a new Myrtle Beach golf villa.
Players are flighted according to their handicap, age, and gender, and at the conclusion of the 72-holes, flight winners advance to the 18-hole world championship playoff at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
