Underwent hand surgery on March 26
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (May 12, 2006) – Ryan Moore, who turned professional last June and earned his PGA Tour playing card in just 10 starts, plans to return to the Tour next week at the Bank of America Colonial seven weeks after undergoing hand surgery.
Moore played just four times this season before missing the cut at the Bay Hill Invitational presented by MasterCard. Shortly after that event, the full extent of Moore’s injury was properly diagnosed. He had surgery in Orlando on March 26 to repair the broken hook of the hamate bone in his left hand.
"It was tough having to miss this much of my first season on the PGA Tour, especially having to forego my exemption into the Masters," said Moore, "but it is a relief to finally understand the cause of the pain that I had been experiencing since last summer and have it dealt with and behind me."
Moore was a senior at the University of Nevada Las Vegas and the reigning U.S. Amateur champion when he earned low amateur honors at the 2005 Masters and earned an invitation to return this year with a share of 13th place. He turned professional following the U.S. Open at Pinehurst and secured his card in four months, the highlight being a runner-up finish at the Bell Canadian Open.
