Mountain resort’s award-winning courses complement new ModelGolf program.
WINTERGREEN, VA — Picture the perfect golf swing. "Now put yourself in that picture," says Sean Taylor, Director of Golf at Wintergreen Resort.
Making that picture a reality is the foundation of the newly developed Wintergreen Golf Academy. Pairing the optimum elements of video technology and biomechanics with individual golf instruction, the program debuts this season at the famed destination resort in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains.
Beginning in June 2006, the Wintergreen Golf Academy will feature the scientific teaching system ModelGolf, which applies video data from more than 100 elite men and women tour professionals to customize a high-resolution, on-screen "perfect swing" pattern to fit the each student’s physique and flexibility. Through instruction and comparative analysis, using a patented ModelOverlay process, students learn their optimum stance and swing for every shot.
"No two golfers are the same, which is why ModelGolf works so remarkably well," Taylor said of the innovative concept, which has built a solid reputation at Grand Cypress Resort in Florida and Kiawah Island in South Carolina, as well as several other world-class golf resorts throughout the United States. "Instruction cannot work if it’s ‘one size fits all.’"
At Wintergreen, each Golf Academy teaching professional will be able to analyze a student’s swing and taper the program to train any body type – based on size, age, gender and other factors – to achieve the ideal swing. Instruction is not only invaluable to existing golfers looking to improve, but is an excellent starting point for beginners, both female and male.
The Wintergreen Golf Academy offers a one-day program as well as multi-day programs, also designed to fit the individual student’s needs. But the learning process extends beyond scheduled sessions at Wintergreen, as students may access video replay, suggested drills and instructor comments on the ModelGolf website (www.modelgolf.com). "The end result is an ongoing, lasting improvement in your golf game," Taylor said.
Guest accommodation packages also can be tailored for Golf Academy students, individually and in groups. Wintergreen Resort offers several special Golf Academy packages throughout the season, for two and three-night stays. The resort features 300 villa-style condominiums and rental homes, from studio suites to seven-bedroom homes throughout its mountaintop setting.
One of the Mid-Atlantic’s premier year-round golf destinations – even during ski season –
Wintergreen Resort has tee times available 12 months a year at Stoney Creek, the resort’s 27-hole valley layout designed by renowned golf course architect Rees Jones. Wintergreen adds seasonal play at the highest course in Virginia, the Ellis Maples-designed Devil’s Knob, an exquisite mountaintop layout at 3,850-feet elevation that is known for cool summer temperatures and outstanding tee-to-green conditions, as well as a little extra altitude to help carry shots farther.
