(CARMEL, CA, May 19, 2006) The Shivas Irons Society today announced that it has released the third issue of its award-winning periodical, The Journal of the Shivas Irons Society. The Journal, which is intended to be a vehicle for all of the creative arts inspired by the game of golf, occupies a distinctive niche in the golf media marketplace.
In announcing the publication of Issue 3, Steve Cohen, President of the Society, stated, "This third issue of the Journal has everything we strive for – controversial opinion, historical art, insightful commentary, great photography and outstanding design. The profile of Charles Schulz, gleaned from his spoken words, and illustrated by his Peanuts cartoons, is not to be missed."
Issue 3 also features a lively conversation with Michael Murphy, author of the acclaimed novel Golf in the Kingdom, and an interview with Grant Spaeth, former President of the USGA, who has some interesting and perceptive observations on the rules of golf. Lost Balls, a photo essay by New Yorker Charles Lindsay, shows the humorous side of the golfing adventure, while writer and researcher Beverly Cole, in a beautifully illustrated piece, discusses how the relationship between golf and the British culture was expressed in the art of railway poster advertising during the first half of the last century.
Issue 3 of The Journal of the Shivas Irons Society – as well as the first two issues – may purchased online at www.shivas.org or by calling the Society offices at 831- 899-8441.
