ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (May 23, 2006) – Slammer & Squire at World Golf Village will be a host venue for American Express Women’s Golf Week Saturday, June 3 through Saturday, June 10. The week-long event, now in its second year, is a precedent-setting collaboration of the top U.S. golf organizations aimed at increasing the participation of women in golf.
"This week is a great opportunity for women to come out and enjoy the game," commented Cathy Harbin, General Manager of the Slammer & Squire and King & Bear at World Golf Village. "And who knows, like me, they may fall in love with the game and even make a career out of it."
Throughout the entire week, Slammer & Squire will offer women a greens fee of only $40 when teeing off between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. In addition, Slammer & Squire will host two free clinics from PGA TOUR Golf Academy instructors at its driving range. The clinics will take place Saturday, June 3 and Saturday, June 10 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. All clinic participants will have the opportunity to play a complimentary nine holes following the clinic.
Women’s Golf Week participants can also take part in a networking reception at the Slammer & Squire’s Legends Grille Tuesday, June 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Admission is $10 and attendees will have the opportunity to try their hand on the World Golf Hall of Fame’s 18-hole, natural grass Putting Course among additional activities, as well as enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
All fund-raising at the Slammer & Squire will benefit the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement, a nationwide campaign to make women aware of their risk for heart disease, the number one cause of death, and take action to reduce that risk. Go Red For Women provides women with tips and information on healthy eating, exercise and risk factor reduction, such as smoking cessation, weight maintenance, blood pressure control and blood cholesterol management. All funds raised go to support the women-specific and women-related initiatives of the American Heart Association, including awareness, research, education and community programs for heart disease among women.
